Sawadee

A group of us went to this restaurant for a quick meal before a show.

It is located in Subiaco and is contained in a converted house on Rokeby Road. It has an outside eating area that was not used due to the weather. The dining area is held in a number of different rooms. Due to the small rooms the seating is rather cramped.

The menu is Thai based and contains all of the usual suspects. Main Meals are generally in the $18-$19 dollar range, reasonable but not good value.

When asked what the fish of the day was we were informed it was Basa, practically the cheapest fish that can be bought. Not the sort of declaration that creates desire.

All told the meals served were fine if not outstanding. If location is important then give it a go, otherwise stroll a few hundred meters north To Hans Cafe at the Subiaco train station and get a similar meal for much less.

Zanders

On a very cold and windy day we went to Zanders on Scarborough Beach for lunch. Unfortunately it was not much warmer inside.

The decor is trendy and I can imagine it would be a great place for a meal in the summer months.

The menu is quite extensive but is overpriced for what you get, it should be 25- 50% cheaper for most dishes.

I chose the Fish & Chips for $24. The fish was “catch of the day”, not sure what it was but it was definitely an anorexic variety, It’s never good when the batter is thicker than the fillet. It came with chips, which were great, and a small Greek salad.

My better half chose the $23 Chicken Linguine. This was a disappointment. The small bits of chicken were tough, it tasted like they was cooked well before the rest of the dish. The sauce was thick and rather rich, it was a good thing the serving was small because it would be hard to eat much more.

All in all a great location which was let down by overpriced and average food.

YourFonts

Came across this great free service that will turn your handwriting into a font.

All you need to do is to print off the template and write the required letters, symbols and numbers. You then scan the template and upload the image to the YourFont site. They  generate the font within a minute or so and you can then download and install it on your computer. All up it takes less than 10 minutes,

Another use is to actually draw your own emote icons and other symbols instead of the letters. Your very own collection of Wingdings!

Well worth a visit,

Gran Torino

Heard all the good blurb about this movie and I was pleasantly surprised to see it was true.Gran Torino

The story line is nothing new, lone hero stands up to local bullies. Seen any Charles Bronson or Steven Seagall movies, you have seen this one.

What really sells it are the performances of Clint Eastwood as the grumpy old loner and Ahney Her as the feisty neighbor.

Clint scowls and growls as he does in most of his movies. His delivery of the dry humor makes the character all the more believable.

Well worth seeing.

Central TAFE

Ahhh! Year after year Central TAFE can’t get their act together when it comes to enrolments. After queing for 2 hours to enrol, go to pay and there would have been over 200 people waiting in line.

Every year they blame the computers. If they the know thats the problem how about fixing them!

Why cant they get their act together and allow online registration like West Coast TAFE?
